Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress intend to face the next state Assembly elections

The Shiv Sena has claim that the NCP and Congress will stand together to form a government in Maharashtra, if the BJP does not get elect to the state assembly. But the Congress and NCP failed to collect enough letters of support for such a statement. Moreover, the governor has refused to extend the period for the pre-poll talks until June 10. In view of these events, the local Shiv Sena leadership has started preparing for the civic polls.

In the recent past, Shiv Sena chief Sharad Pawar had warned that the Congress and NCP would form an alliance to contest the Maharashtra Assembly polls. While the alliance is unlikely to win this election, it remains a strong possibility despite the recent failure of the party to wrest control of the state’s governance from the BJP.

Russian troops regrouping to focus on the east

Despite their recent setbacks in Kyiv, Russian troops are now focusing on the east. According to a senior European diplomat, Putin’s forces may not be able to capture the Ukrainian capital, but the country remains primed for long-range bombardment and an attack. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces are now preparing for new Russian attacks in the east. However, the Pentagon is wary of such a move because the Russians have reported some setbacks, particularly near Kyiv.

In the east, Russian troops are battling Ukrainian forces on the outskirts of Mariupol. If Russia were to seize Mariupol, it would control a large portion of Ukraine, cutting off the Ukrainian army from defending other regions. Despite this, however, the White House believes that the Russians are simply getting bad information. This is not surprising given the recent losses that the Ukrainian army has sustained.
