Jessica Fulk Here: KC’s Booming and It’s Giving Me a Headache (But I Kinda Love It)

From Fancy New Digs to New Restaurants Leawood Can’t Stop Talking About

Okay, listen up. Kansas City’s blowing up, and I’ve got thoughts. Lots of ’em. Grab a coffee (or a beer, I don’t judge) and let’s chat.

Houses, Houses Everywhere (And Not a Clue in Sight)

First off, the housing market? It’s wild. I swear, I’m getting calls every five minutes from people asking me what’s the difference between duplex and townhouse. Seriously, folks, Google exists for a reason! But fine, I’ll explain it for the millionth time next week. We’ve got houses popping up faster than I can keep track. Luxury apartments downtown, family homes in the ‘burbs, and everything in between. It’s great, but also… can we talk about the traffic? I’m aging ten years every time I hit rush hour.

Food, Glorious Food (If You Can Get a Reservation)

And don’t even get me started on the restaurant scene. These new KC restaurants? They’re killing it. My waistline hates me, but my taste buds are in heaven. Pro tip: make reservations like, yesterday. Or be prepared to wait. And wait. And wait some more.

It’s Not All Sunshine and BBQ Sauce

Look, I love that KC’s growing. It’s exciting. But can we talk about the growing pains for a sec? 1. The construction. It’s everywhere. I feel like I’m living in a giant hard hat zone. 2. Parking. Finding a spot downtown is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. A very expensive haystack. 3. The cost of living. It’s creeping up, folks. My wallet’s feeling it, and I know yours is too. On the plus side, have you checked out the North Kansas City breweries lately? If the traffic and construction are stressing you out, that’s where you’ll find me on Friday nights. Just saying.

The Neighborhoods Are Getting a Facelift (Some More Than Others)

Oh, and let’s not forget about areas like Hospital Hill Kansas City. It’s like it woke up one day and decided to be the cool kid on the block. New businesses, spruced-up houses – it’s almost unrecognizable. In a good way, mostly. Look, KC’s changing. Fast. It’s exciting, it’s frustrating, it’s… a lot. But at the end of the day, it’s still our city. Just with more fancy restaurants and less parking. If you need me, I’ll be stuck in traffic, dreaming about BBQ and cheaper rent. But hey, that’s KC for ya. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Well, maybe with less traffic. A girl can dream, right?
